Well, we are at kind of a milestone. Google’s adsense has replaced fastclick and everyone else as our #1 source of revenue on zeropaid. I’m not going to give you all the numbers but suffice to say we doing numbers that outstrip other ad programs by 100%. These are some of the best numbers I’ve seen out there and I wonder when another ad network will rise to compete with AdSense.

So unless you live in san diego or pay close attention to these things, you probably don’t know our mayor has resigned, our deputy mayor is under indictment, and our city is 2 steps shy of bankruptcy. Other than the people we elect to run our civic business, San Diego really is a GREAT place to live. I mean, aside from the constant influx of people who have no idea how to drive here, the skyrocketing real estate prices, and the inept city officials.
Oh well, at least the talk shows have something to keep them busy. I guess they are going to have a special election to find a new mayor. Go Mickey Nicholson! Safe money’s on Donna Frye.

Nokia introduced a new phone, the n91. 4GB for storage, USB 2, 2 megapixel camera, fm radio, recording capabilities, and much more. This is what I want in a phone, but I want even more. I want my laptop, my digital camera, my phone, my mp3 player, my palm, all in one. They are getting it, but slowly. Motorola is coming closer with the v710 and razr, with micro flash and mp3 capability, but is a fm radio really that hard? Nokia doesn’t think so. Step your game up guys!
I want 4GB of storage on my phone, but I want it removable. I want to have a phone for doing business during the day and one for going out. I want swappable storage so I can move all my contacts / music from phone to phone. I also want to be able to switch carriers easily, so if I choose to have accounts with 2-5 carriers, I can switch based on signal strength. Dropped calls SUCK way worse than a shitty phone.

Finally got comments working on news stories for v2. What we are doing is keeping our old news but modifying the urls. So http://www.zeropaid.com/news/articles/auto/02232005a.php becomes http://dev01.zeropaid.com/news/5137/Wayne+Rosso+vs.+P2P+Community/. It’s a little more search engine friendly. We also wanted to utilize vBulletin, our bbs / membership engine, to handle news comments. So now when we publish a news story it creates a thread in vbulletin, and grabs the last 5 replies to that thread for display on the news page itself. Sounds good, but it’s a BITCH in practice.
So, we finally got it done with the help of an Italian php guy named Bolas that I have been working with. Thanks, Bolas. Now I am that much closer to launching this bitch. Now to just figure out some IP space. God I want to move to the AT&T backbone, but that’s a whole nother topic.

Made a bunch more updates to the new site, just mainly hung now on a few server config issues. I need a good local redhat sysadmin to help me out with this stuff. We are getting too many servers now and its too much for me to handle. *sigh* once we get to the new version I will hire a good sysadmin. Also still have to add display functionality to the news and program comments. other than that i think it is loose ends.

We co-sponsored the seedleSs 420 party, it was a blast. We hung a huge 8′x11′ banner off the front of the building, there was about 1100 people there going crazy, Junior Reid tore it up, basically a great night and a great event all over. Big ups and respect to Rez Khan, Carlos of Bredren, and Gerald Burdell. Couldn’t have done it without everyone pouring their heart and soul into it, thanks and I will see you all next year. Bigger and better!
PS. Big shoutout to DJ Nickel who saved the day. Thanks bro!

Just caught Ian Clarke’s new project, Indy. In his words,
“We are just about to go live with another project I have been working on called “Indy”. Indy is designed to provide both a new way for artists to find new fans, and a new way for fans to find new music and artists that they like.”
Indy is a really thin app, with a simple but effective interface. You open it for the first time, it prompts you to push play, then starts queueing music when you do. It starts playing and expects you to start rating songs right away, then is supposed to give you what you want to hear after a while. Don’t expect to hear any 50 cent, this is independent music that is freely available on the web. Cool toy Ian, thanks for keeping us entertained with the products off your to do list.

In an effort to plug all the holes the spamming problem could be caused by, I just upgraded PHP to 4.3.11. So easy! Sendmail should really learn from this… considering using postfix instead of sendmail, does anyone have any recommendations either way? Everyone I talk to says forget sendmail, go postfix or qmail.
